Your data, and how Shelby cares for it
Last updated: 22 August 2026
Shelby is a dog care app that helps families keep track of their dog's daily care together. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and the choices you have. We keep it in plain language — no fine print traps.
Who this policy covers
This policy applies to the Shelby mobile app for iOS and Android ("Shelby", "we", "us"). By creating an account and using Shelby, you agree to the practices described here.
Information we collect
Account information
When you sign up, we collect your name and email address. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email, and profile photo from Google. We use this to create and secure your account and to identify you to family members you share a dog with.
Your dog's care data
Shelby stores the information you add about your dog so your family can stay in sync. This includes:
- Dog details you enter — name, photo, breed, birth date, and similar profile information
- Care activity you log — meals, walks, and health events, with their dates and times
- Recurring treatments — vaccines, flea and tick prevention, deworming, and their schedules
- Any notes, photos, or documents (such as vet records) you choose to attach
Family sharing
When you invite someone to help care for your dog, we process the invitation so they can join. Once they accept, the people you invite can see and add to that dog's care data. You control who you invite.
Technical information
To keep the app running reliably, our infrastructure providers automatically process basic technical data such as device type, app version, and diagnostic information (for example, crash reports). We do not use this to build advertising profiles.
How we use your information
- To provide the core app — logging care, showing your timeline, and reminding you when treatments are due
- To sync data in real time between you and the family members you invite
- To send in-app notifications and reminders (Shelby uses in-app notifications only)
- To keep your account secure and to detect and prevent abuse
- To respond to you when you contact our support
How your information is stored and shared
Shelby is built on Google Firebase. Your account, care data, and any uploaded photos or documents are stored using Firebase services (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, and Cloud Storage) operated by Google, which acts as our data processor. Google processes this data on our behalf under its own security and privacy commitments.
Your dog's care data is visible only to you and the family members you personally invite. We share your information with third parties only:
- With infrastructure providers (such as Google Firebase) strictly to operate the app
- When required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users
Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active so the app can work. If you delete your account, we delete your personal data and your dog's care data from our active systems, except where we must keep certain records to comply with legal obligations. Backups are cleared on a rolling basis.
Your rights and choices
You can:
- Access and update your account and dog information directly in the app
- Leave or remove family members from a shared dog at any time
- Delete your account and data — contact us and we will process your request
Depending on where you live (for example, under the EU/UK GDPR or the California CCPA), you may have additional rights, such as the right to access, correct, export, or erase your personal data, and to object to certain processing. We honor these requests — just reach out.
Children's privacy
Shelby is intended for adults caring for their dogs and is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
International users
Shelby is available in English and Hebrew and is used in multiple countries. Because we rely on Google Firebase, your information may be processed and stored on servers located outside your country. We rely on the safeguards provided by our infrastructure providers to protect data transferred internationally.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Shelby evolves. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continuing to use Shelby after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
